Why I Love the Call to Prayer

I’m about to tell you something that to many, will seem very controversial.

It isn’t meant to. Rather, the intent is to share a perspective that until a few years ago, I myself lacked, and it is a perspective that I feel is very important to share in today’s world.

Before I get ahead of myself, let me start by saying this.

I am an American citizen, who happens to be a woman of Caucasian descent, who is also a Christian.

And I live in the Middle East.

And one of my favorite parts of my daily schedule is listening to the Islam Call to Prayer.

What’s in a Year?

There are many people who hold the belief that 2016 was a garbage-fire of a year. I have to say, for the most part, I agree. 2016 was rough for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons. But as I look back on the past year, on a personal level, I’ve had a pretty good year. 2016 was a year of growth and discovery for me and I will always be grateful for the lessons I learned.

An Open Letter to My Daughter’s First Love

Dear Prince,


I know in all reality your name is most likely not Prince, but that’s what my baby is already calling you. And to me, that is very appropriate because she is my Princess. Thats why I’m writing you this. It may seem slightly (or excessively) preemptive, but one day you’ll have a child of your own and you will understand. Until then, feel free to judge away.

Even though my daughter is currently at the tender age of 4, she talks about you all the time. At least, she’ll think that it’s you. As her first love, you will be the one who rushes in and sweeps her off her feet. You will make her heart beat a little faster, make her stomach flutter uncontrollably, and make her understand love songs with a whole new meaning.

She is ready for it. I am not

A Lesson In Beauty

I was hit by something rather profound this morning and it really resonated with me, so please bear with me.

For my entire life I have dealt with self image issues (like a majority of today’s population I am sure). I have been camera shy, people shy, fitting room shy and event shy because I just don’t have that ‘perfect body type’ that so many women are supposed to have.

Having children has not helped that.
